Testimonials

Testimonials from Community Leaders:

Mayor Dooley worked behind the scenes to bring the Province, Regional Health Board and Regional Districts onside to support the expansion to Kootenay Lake Hospital.  This allowed the Hospital Foundation to partner with IHA and the Province on the $15.5 Million project and bring a CT Scanner to Nelson.  In my opinion, we wouldn’t have a CT Scanner today without John’s efforts in reaching consensus among the Partners.- Roger Higgins, Past Chair, Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation

I have known and worked with Nelson Mayor John Dooley for the past six years. His background of private sector experience along with his leadership for the city of Nelson makes him a key participant at the Provincial level as well as the RDCK. I am writing this testimonial on behalf of John Dooley because I think it is very important that we continue to have the balance and diverse backgrounds at the local government level to insure measured and positive progress. John Dooley is bright, articulate and fights hard for what he believes are the best options for the people he represents. I look forward to working again with him to continue to provide the direction and leadership demanded by our constituents. – John R. Kettle

I have known Mayor Dooley for a number of years and have always admired his dedication to the City of Nelson.  John is a very forward thinking person and a very successful leader in building strong regional relationships that ultimately will serve the best interest of the entire Kootenay Region. – Greg E. Granstrom, Mayor, City of Rossland

We have personally known John Dooley since we moved to Nelson in 1992. Our children were in school and various sports activities together. He is a family man who cares not only about his own family but the ‘extended family’ of our city. Mayor John Dooley is honest, reliable and sincere. John is an excellent ambassador for Nelson and area as he’s passionate, dedicated and committed. John is accessible and approachable by young and old alike. John is an avid supporter of culture, health-care, environment, sports, recreation, and business. On Nov 19th we will be supporting John Dooley for re-election as our Mayor. - Zelda Morrison & family

I have worked with John Dooley on several projects over the last few years. One of John’s greatest strengths is his understanding of how important it is to partner with community and all levels of government to get major projects done for Nelson and area. Johns leadership and ability to create meaningful partnerships had a major impact on the communities ability to receive funding for both the renovations that have taken place at Kootenay Lake Hospital and also with the funding received to help renovate the student residence at Selkirk College. - Garry Kalinski

I know John Dooley as an avid outdoors person. John is a passionate promoter of the sports fishery on Kootenay Lake. John understands the social, environmental and the economic value of our sports fishery and the need to continually work to protect and enhance those assets. - Kerry Reed, Reel Adventures Fishing Charters Nelson B.C

Mayor John Dooley has demonstrated his willingness and the ability to work with other communities for the benefit of the region and even crossing boundaries and working with communities outside of the RDCK; whether that involved supporting community driven green energy projects within the RDCK or co-hosting the BC Senior Games with communities that crossed regional boundaries.  John has demonstrated leadership at the WKBRHD Hospital Board with the health assets and benefits he has helped bring to the community of Nelson that also supports surrounding communities within the RDCK.

Having worked with John Dooley on Federation of Canadian Municipalities Committees I have witnessed his frankness and authenticity.  He readily comprehends issues and naturally provides leadership. – Barrie Lynch, Councill

As Chair person of two standing committees at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, I have had the pleasure of working with Mayor John Dooley.  He has been a major contributor to our deliberations and always with excellent insights. Mayor Dooley has been a great ambassador for Nelson, for British Columbia and I wholly endorse his re-election with my personal hope that he will continue in his role as a FCM Director. – Raymond Louie, City of Vancouver Councillor

John was very influential in securing the 15 M expansion at KLH.  John worked with IH and local physicians and KLH Foundation in the planning phase to ensure the needs of the Nelson area were met both now and into the future.
John developed a full understanding for the need and complexity of the project which enabled him to present the need for this project to different groups.
A project of this magnitude requires the cooperation of many groups at all levels from local government through to the provincial level.  John assisted me as the chief Operating Officer for KB in IH to move this project forward.  John worked with local/provincial levels of government to ensure the redevelopment project at KLH remained a priority.
It is difficult to acquire funding for a project (need always outstrips available funding in health care) without the full support of local city council, local RHD’s and the cooperation of other nearby communities.  John also worked closely with us in presenting the need to IH CEO and Board.
This project would definitely not have been completed as quickly and probably not at all without John’s support and his tenacity to continue to present this as a priority for the Nelson area.  The expansion of the emergency and diagnostic imaging departments at KLH will serve the population well into the future. –
